Winter. The Measure of our Days, edited by Andrew Mullins, presents a collection of the governor’s most thoughtful writings on his home state, the South, and America in general. A sampling of his thoughts from the early 1960s to the present, the volume attests to his progressive political and moral philosophy.

Award-winning authors Jere Nash and Andy Taggart will sign and discuss their book, Mississippi Politics: The Struggle for Power, 1976–2006. Missisippi Politics examines the changes associated with the shifting political climate in Mississippi. The authors explore issues that are heavily associated with the power shift in Mississippi—education reform, highways, casino gambling, business, healthcare interests, and the tobacco industry.

Jere Nash has served as a campaign consultant for a number of Democratic candidates in Mississippi for the past 13 years. Previously he was director of policy and chief of staff for Governor Ray Mabus. Andy Taggart practices law in Madison, is a partner in a business development firm, and serves on the Madison County Board of Supervisors. Previously he was executive director of the Mississippi Republican Party, chief of staff for Governor Kirk Fordice, and president/CEO of the Mississippi Technology Alliance.

“Politics on the Porch at the Pass” begins at noon and will last until 2:00 p.m. The event will be held on the stores enormous porch, facing the gulf breeze.
